Dr. Astan Jaya has extensive experience in socio-environmental and community-based research, particularly related to natural resource management and mining. He has conducted in-depth interviews and field observations with tin mining stakeholders in Bangka and Belitung to assess the social, economic, and health impacts of small-scale mining. His work also includes soil sampling and analysis, as well as facilitating discussions with local governments and communities to evaluate the economic and social dimensions of mining activities. In addition, Dr. Jaya has led participatory research to map key local actors, social institutions, and community dynamics; identify issues such as illegal logging; document local social capital; and explore community aspirations, conflicts, and governance structures. As a team leader, he has coordinated field assessments, community live-in programs, data analysis, and final reporting to develop practical recommendations for sustainable local development and institutional strengthening
